Our next Giant Book Sale will be on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the SouthShore Library. It starts at 10 AM when the library opens and ends at 2 PM. Come early for the best selection.

The possibility for new Friends activities are as limitless as your imagination. As a Friends, you can help the staff create new programs. You could also help the library staff conduct programs for children, teens, adults and seniors.

ANNUAL MEETINGS:

The 2013 Annual Meeting is scheduled for February 6, 2013 at 3 pm at the SouthShore Library. Everyone is welcome.

The 2012 Annual meeting was held on February 1, 2012 at 3pm at the SouthShore Regional Library. All SouthShore Friends meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome. Being part of the Friends gives you a chance to "Have Fun and Help the Library".

We Always Need Books!

(And people to buy the books!) 

Book sales are the Friends primary source of funds to help the library. We depend on individuals and organizations for their generosity. For information on how to donate books, click on Donate Books. 

Why Join the Friends? The Friends organization does for your library what the PTA does for schools and Booster Clubs do for sports  programs. The Friends help the library staff make the library better for everyone. For 2011, the Friends have pledged $35,000 to support special library needs and programs.

Annual dues are $5 for students K through 12, $10 for individuals, $25 for families, clubs, associations and small businesses, $50 for supporting members, $100 for patrons, $500 for benefactors, $750 for lifetime memberships and $1,000 for large corporations. Of course, the Friends would appreciate any donation you choose to make to our 501(C)(3) non-profit organization.

If you would like to have a short presentation about the Friends at your club or organization, or would like additional information, please call Jim Duffy @ 634-1396.

General Membership Meeting

Our next General Membership meeting is on Wednesday, May 9^th, at 3:30 PM (not 3:00 PM).

We are going to try something different for this meeting.  

If all goes well, we will combine this General Membership Meeting with a “short” adult program that will be “Fun and Informative”. We promise that the combined program and meeting will not exceed 90 minutes. We plan to have a short Cooking Program by an instructor from the library ongoing Adult Cooking Program series. You won’t get to cook, but the chef will provide some cooking tips, and you will get to try the result…a wonderfully freshly cooked snack.  

If, for any reason, the cooking program does not work out, the Friends board members have committed to “fill in” with a burlesque program guaranteed to appeal to adults….no teens or kids, please. Hmmm. Maybe.

BOOK SALE ROOM: Be sure to visit the Friends Book Sale Room "just off" the Library lobby. Purchase a book and help the library.  

Did You Know? The SouthShore Library is on the north side of 19th Avenue NE, west of US301 and east of the I75 overpass. The address is 15816 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin, Fl 33570-4903.

The library is about 40,000 square feet and is open seven days a week. Click on "HC Library" on the above main menu for hours of operation.

The library has a large Genealogy Center, about 100 computers, a children’s section, the John Crawford Art Education Center and a variety of meeting and study rooms.

Oh yes......it also has about 100,000 books and media items. The library is a learning center for the SouthShore region of Hillsborough County.

THE PALEONTOLOGY PRESERVE -

In 1983, paleontologist Frank Garcia discovered the world's greatest collection of Pleistocene fossils at the Leisey Shell Pit in southern Hillsborough County. The preserve is at the Camp Bayou. You will be amazed!
